Submissions

Until now, Frisson has primarily featured work from a close group of friends, but we want to open it up to new contributors.

For the upcoming issue, Frisson Vol. V, we plan to examine the twisted portrayal of psychologically unstable women as oppressors, masking their victimization. Exploration of incidents of women’s confinement, psychosis, witch burnings, home imprisonment, and even garden-variety gaslighting are needed to help illuminate this nefarious tactic.

The featured article deals with the “Xuzhou Chained Woman Incident” that occurred in 2022, while another contributor is writing about the link between medieval witch burnings and postpartum psychosis.

We're seeking essays, fiction, comics, illustration, or poetry related to this theme. Submissions are open until April 1. All work must be original (not AI-generated or translated) and free from copyright restrictions.

As for the basic guidelines, nonfiction essays and fiction should be 1,200 words or fewer, poems should be no more than 50 lines, and all images should be half-letter size, with no more than 2 images.

Work can be sent to frissonzine@gmail.com with a deadline of April 1, 2025, with a subject line of "Frisson Vol. V Submission," and we will reply to all submissions. Frisson is a DIY publication, but we pay modestly for content. Pay rates for contributors are $0.08 per word and $25 per image.
