About

Frisson was founded as a DIY publishing imprint in Taipei in 2018. Taking inspiration from the surrealist publications of the turn-of-the twentieth century, its lofty goal was to develop a cross-cultural language for women's experiences. Initially, it was a collaborative zine which featured articles about and interviews with young women business owners, artists, filmmakers, and farmers. Over time, it has evolved into a bilingual Mandarin Chinese-English imprint with over 10 titles.

Frisson seeks to bridge the gap between women's emancipatory efforts across space, time, culture and class. After moving the imprint back to the United States from Taiwan, the focus has changed to introducing notable activities, whether by activists, local village women, authors, or artists, from Taiwan, China, and South Korea to an American readership.
